OPEN CALL for the exhibition: Young Danish Photography '26

 

Fotografisk Center and Foto Studio invite all photographers and visual artists who work with photography in their practice to apply to participate in the group exhibition Young Danish Photography in 2026. The exhibition will open at the end of November 2026.

Application period: 26 January – 22 February 2026 (deadline at 11:59pm CPH time)

About the exhibition:
Young Danish Photography is an annual exhibition at Fotografisk Center, which since 1998 has showcased new talents and trends on the Danish photographic art scene in collaboration with an invited guest curator. Young Danish Photography 26 is curated in collaboration with Foto Studio, and for the first time ever, participants will be selected based on an open call held from 26 January to 22 February 2026.

Application criteria:

    • Young refers to young practice, Danish refers to having a connection to Denmark, Greenland, or the Faroe Islands, and photography” refers to visual art involving photography and other photographic practices.
    • There is no specific theme for this open call.
    • There is no application fee.

How to apply:

    • Send a single PDF file (maximum 7 pages in total, including works, short text and CV. The total file size must not exceed 5 MB) to opencall@fotografiskcenter.dk and please mark the subject field with Application for open call.” You will receive an automatically generated e-mail confirming the receipt of your application.
    • Show 1-2 projects/works over a maximum of 5 pages. Each work must be accompanied by a title, year, size, and technique/material. When submitting video works, include a link to Vimeo. Clearly indicate if the works were created using Artificial Intelligence (AI)
    • Short text about the submitted work(s) (maximum 200 words)
    • CV (maximum 1 page), including name, contact information, and website, if applicable
    • Applications can only be submitted during the open call period from 26 January 26 to 22 February 2026. Applications submitted before or after this period will not be considered.

About the process:

    • The selection of works and curation of the exhibition will be carried out by Fotografisk Center and Foto Studio.
    • Each participant (including groups) will receive a minimum fee in accordance with the rates set by the Danish Visual Artists' Association (BKF) for exhibition fees for participation in group exhibitions, based on the number of participants.
    • The final number of participants is expected to be between 6 and 12 people.
    • Fotografisk Center will cover the cost of transporting the works within Denmark and insuring them during the exhibition.
    • Accepted participants will receive a response by March 6, 2026. If you do not hear from us, you have not been accepted. We are unable to provide reasons for rejection.
    • After the selection process, all applications will be deleted.

About Foto Studio
Foto Studio is a group consisting of visual artists Tine Bek, Paula Duvå, and Mads Holm. We facilitate talks and roundtable discussions, produce texts, and curate exhibitions. We are interested in photographic images and the conversation surrounding photography today.

 

About Fotografisk Center
Kunsthallen Fotografisk Center is located in the historic Kødbyen district in Vesterbro, Copenhagen, and was founded as an association in 1996 by the City of Copenhagen and Kulturby '96 to promote art photography in Denmark. The art hall's primary activity is to disseminate and create new knowledge, as well as to discuss the significance of the photographic medium in both contemporary art and photographic image culture. This is done through a diverse exhibition program, publications, research, a bookshop, external collaborative projects, and artist talks, seminars, and book launches.
